The world remembers everything you do.
The Emperor wants to be the only thing it remembers.
Season One
In Vael, every deed leaves a mark the world keeps. Tallowmere's Tenth Bell is the oldest bell there is, and it remembers the most. On the night the Gilded Dominion comes for it, the town burns.
Corin, a blacksmith's apprentice, and Isra, his foster sister, wake among rebels hiding in a ravine. They have each other, a list of the people they lost, and a road to the Bell Kiln, where the Dominion has taken it.

The bell has rung. Season One is out. Play
How it plays
- You become what you do. Swing a hammer and your arm grows strong. Weapon skills and spells grow from use.
- Words are keys. Learn the words people say, then ask about them and speak them back: they open people, doors and fights.
- It bleeds. A dark story with hits that spray blood. There's a Gore: Low option.
- Plays anywhere. Keyboard, mouse or gamepad on a computer; touch controls on a phone, upright or sideways.

Accessibility and controls
Everything below is in Options, on the title screen and in the game's menu. Options belong to your device and save at once. Before your first new game, a short card offers Gore, the flash and motion rows, Shake and Text speed. If your device asks for reduced motion, Reduce flashes and Reduced motion start on, and Shake starts off.
Reading
- Text speed: Slow, Normal, Fast or Instant. Confirm shows the rest of a line; hold it to fast-forward.
- Auto-advance: Off, Slow or Normal. Lines move on after a pause for reading. It never makes a choice for you.
- Text box: Standard or High contrast, an opaque black box with bright white text.
- Captions: Off or On. A line of text for sounds that tell you something you can't see: a bell, a door, a roar.
- Backlog: the last 50 lines said, to read again. L, or the gamepad's Select, opens it during a scene.
Seeing
- Gore: Full or Low. Low has far less blood, in one muted colour, and no wounds or pools.
- Reduce flashes: Off or On. No white flashes across the screen.
- Reduced motion: Off or On. No hit-stop, blood-drip wipe, speaker hop or heat haze, and fewer embers and ash.
- Shake: On or Off. The screen shakes on heavy hits, quakes and roars.
- Brightness: Standard, Bright, Brighter or Brightest. Lifts the dark of caves, nights and lantern floors; above Standard, a carried lantern lights a tile further.
- Minimap: On or Off. A small map while you cross the world. N turns it on and off.
- Objective marker: Off or On. A small arrow at the screen's edge, pointing to your objective when it is off screen.
Hearing
- Sound: On or Off, for music and sound effects. M mutes on a keyboard.
- Music: Score, the full soundtrack, or Chiptune, the lighter one, for a slow phone.
- Music volume, SFX volume and Ambience volume: Off, then 1 to 10 each.
- Text blips: On or Off. A soft sound in each speaker's voice as their lines type out.
- Silent switch (iPhone and iPad only): Mutes game or Plays anyway, with the ring switch on silent.
Playing
- Difficulty: Easy (weaker foes), Normal or Hard (tougher foes). Kept with each save.
- Battle speed: Normal or Fast. Fast halves the pauses in battle; rolls and outcomes stay the same.
- Overcast ask: On or Off. Ask before a spell you can't afford tears your Imprint for max HP.
- One-handed (phones held upright only): Off or On. Tap where to walk, or hold to steer; tap someone to talk. No D-pad, and bigger buttons.
- Joystick (phones held sideways only): Off or On. Put a thumb down anywhere on the left and drag to walk, in place of the D-pad.
- Pad opacity (phones held sideways only): 50%, 65%, 85% or 100%. How solid the touch controls look while no thumb is on them; pressed, they are always solid.
- Always run: Off or On. Run without holding Run; hold Run to walk instead.
- Controls: see and change every key and gamepad button.
- Play stats: On or Off. Anonymous counts of where players stop, and the Ledger's tallies: no cookies, no account. Privacy has the details.

How this was made
One person makes Tenth Bell: Michael Bondi. He directs every part of it.
- Code, art and sound design. Claude, an AI by Anthropic, writes the code, draws the pixel art and makes the sound effects, under Michael's direction. He plays the game, marks up what's wrong and decides what stays.
- Story. Michael writes the brief: the shape of the story, its themes and how it should end. Claude drafts the scenes from it, and Michael reads and approves every one.
- Music. The score is Michael's own album, The Two Gates, realized with AI assistance.
The game makes nothing with AI while you play: everything you see and hear was made ahead of time. Every act is free.
